Aylett is an unincorporated community in King William County, located about 30 miles northeast of Richmond along Route 360. Named for the colonial Aylett family, whose tobacco inspection warehouse was established along the Mattaponi River by an act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1730, the community grew as a key trading post between Richmond and the Northern Neck.
